Used with white ash in a bowl or cup-shaped burners with 3-leg design. The traditional 3 legs prevents the burner from over heating. Be certain to extinguish the charcoal after the use. Review: Excellent choice, easy to light, economical - No sparking or sputtering as with 'quick light' charcoal disks that use gunpowder to accelerate the lighting process. Very clean burn with a faint citrus scent. I use these with Orthodox Christian incense 'pellets'. To light, use small (think cosmetic) tweezers to hold the charcoal bricks over a flame (I use a candle) Allow 30 sec to a minute, moving the edges of one side (which will become the top) over the flame until the edges are starting to turn white, then place in your censer. Allow top to turn completely white before placing first pellet(s). I sometimes will use two incense pellets at a time, and by replacing them every 5 minutes or so, I can use a total of up to five or seven. Each charcoal brick lasts for about 15-20 usable minutes. A part of my normal routine. So glad I found these. The larger, square ones are excellent as well, but these are more economical. Review: I love these little cubes! - I have nothing bad to say about this charcoal. The incense charcoal I was using before was Three Kings, which I didn't like. This one however is easy to light and does last 20-30 minutes. If you keep sprinkling small amounts of incense resin or herb on it, it will continue to burn. Clean burning with no smoky or charcoal smell, and it burned all the way down with no waste. Pleasantly surprising, considering the small size. Will buy again. ## Features - Shoyeido - Square Charcoal (Miyako Sumi) - 48 Piece Box ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #4,516,583 in Home & Kitchen ( See Top 100 in Home & Kitchen ) #8,143 in Incense | | Customer Reviews | 4.3 out of 5 stars 332 Reviews | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Shoyeido - **Material:** Ash Wood - **Flavor:** Mesquite - **Item Weight:** 0.24 Pounds - **Item Form:** Stick ## Images ![Shoyeido - Square Charcoal (Miyako Sumi) - 48 Piece Box - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71oGENX+enL.jpg) ![Shoyeido - Square Charcoal (Miyako Sumi) - 48 Piece Box - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41J55nMMRQL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Are these bamboo charcoal?** A: I don't think so...the ingredients are in Japanese. **Q: I am looking specifically for bamboo charcoal. Is this charcoal made of bamboo? Also, is it, more or less, non-toxic (no saltpeter or other chemicals)** A: I believe it is bamboo. Lights easily with no chemicals used for igniting . No smoke until incense is placed on it. **Q: can it be used for water filters?** A: I don't think it is meant to be used as a water filter. **Q: Can you burn powder insencts with this product?** A: Yes but the size of the bricket is small and will only allow for a very small amt of powder. You can continue to add the powder to the bricket. These are best used for resins and indented cones that done burn well on their own. The best part of this charcoal is that it doesn’t impart a heavy charcoal aroma and smoke when use like larger discs. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent choice, easy to light, economical *by R***Y on April 8, 2024* No sparking or sputtering as with 'quick light' charcoal disks that use gunpowder to accelerate the lighting process. The coals are tiny, and are alot harder to light, but they beat the self lighting ones by a long shot. Having a torch and a pair of chopsticks on hand will make it much easier to thoroughly burn and flip the coals. If you dont have a torch, you can also hold them over a candle flame for a minute or two. when it catches, start blowing on them (LIGHTLY) until the whole coal is glowing and covered in white ash. you will need to do alot of blowing! The process is longer, ((and there is a little bit of a learning curve)) but the coals burn much cleaner, and do not leave a smell like the self lighting ones. ## Frequently Bought Together - Shoyeido - Square Charcoal (Miyako Sumi) - 48 Piece Box - SHOYEIDO Charcoal 24 Pcs., 1 EA - SHOYEIDO White Ash, 1 EA --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.gr/products/6737234-shoyeido-square-charcoal-miyako-sumi-48-piece-box](https://www.desertcart.gr/products/6737234-shoyeido-square-charcoal-miyako-sumi-48-piece-box) --- *Product available on Desertcart Greece* *Store origin: GR* *Last updated: 2026-10-06*
