Q: I'm having trouble finding 1tb or 2tb m.2 2242 sata iii ssd's. are they available, or did they become obsolete before the gpd micropc was released?

It's the opposite. They just aren't available yet. M.2 2242 is half the size of a traditional m.2 2280 ssd, this slot is often used for non ssd related things, instance LTE modem in my Thinkpad. I've never actually seen one, but my basic understanding is that they're tiny critters. I did find one that Amazon says will be releasing come September 30. Do a search for m.2 2242 ssd in the Amazon search box and it should come up.
