You pull the lever out at the bottom of the toilet and the slide valve releases the contents it into a waste holding tank or into the sewer line for discharge at a camp site. The toilet is pretty much permanently mounted to the floor, would be troublesome to have to remove it to dump as it would be heavy with up to 7 gallons of waste and having to disconnect the 12-volt power wires and if equipped, the fresh water recharge hose. **Q: Does this come with the flange?** A: No. It attaches to a (not included) flange. **Q: From what I read this has a small holding tank that you can emty later** A: This stool has a tank that you put 3gal. of water and sanitizer in. It holds a total of 7 gal with waste. Then you can dump into larger holding tank. The thing you should know, is that this stool doesn't come with the plumbing necessary to hook it to water system. If you don't have what is necessary from your old stool, you will need to buy this too. **Q: What comes with the toilet? Vent kit or slide-ez valve** A: The toilet hooks up to a floor drain and the release valve is in the bottom of the unit and is included. It has a "circulator" which brings water up and washes out the bowl. There is a screen inside that separates the solids out. We had an older model before this one and it worked for quite a while. You don't want to over-fill. There is a fill indicator right on the top. We flush it out each time with several buckets of water just to make sure it all goes out. The cleaner they recommend helps. We use the formaldehyde free type to preserve our septic system. There is no "vent kit". I was very skeptical about no odors, chemical or otherwise. I placed the unit in a small conversion trailer took off for a week of fishing in the summer heat of Utah, Wyoming & Montana and all went well.
