Sometimes I took her out of the plastic shield, while I supervised her for a few minutes, so she could preen a little. Put her back in her cage yesterday and went out for a couple hours. When I got home, I saw that I had forgotten to put the shield back on! But, I looked, and there was not a single feather or piece of one on the bottom of her cage. She didn't pluck them! She was calm and happy looking. I decided to give her a chance, and I have left the shield off. It's been off nearly 2 days and she's doing so well! It's risky. It wouldn't take her long to make another hole in her chest. But she is so calm, vocalizing and chewing the cage toys approrpriately that I really think she's going to make it. Can you tell me why fruit is not reccomended during use of this product? Thank you** A: I do not know, but it does say in the paperwork no fresh fruit. It also says only bottled water. He seems to be playing with his chew toys for the first time. He grew some feathers but then picked them.
