Aqara Smart Lock U300, Fingerprint Keyless Entry Door Lock with Handle, Matter Over Thread with Apple Home Keys, Touchscreen Keypad, Smart Lever Lock Supports Apple Home, Alexa, Google, IFTTT, Black - desertcart.com

Review: Great lock for Apple Home - I've only had this a couple of weeks, so I can't speak to reliability or battery life. Physical installation was almost as easy as a basic door handle -- about as simple as something like this could be. Physical operation is smooth and solid. Initial configuration was slightly confusing at first since it is not initially obvious which steps (in Aqara app) require an Aqara bridge (which I do not have), but after initial setup in Aqara app (with first fingerprint, etc.) I added the device to Home app, and the Home Key appeared in the Wallet app automatically. Other home members were prompted to create a Home Key as well -- easy! Operation of the "Passage Mode" button on the inside is perfect. When you press the button a voice says "To enable Passage Mode, verify with fingerprint, NFC, or passcode" then if you do one of those it says "Passage Mode Enabled". Then when you press the button again to turn it off it says "Passage Mode disabled". What could be more clear than that!? I can add a a user (in Aqara app) and give them a passcode ahead-of-time, then can add a fingerprint to their User ID later (if desired). I can unlock the door from anywhere in the world using the Home app on my phone (since the lock is within range of my AppleTV, which is my home hub). Even without an Aqara hub this lock works great. Good job, Aqara!
Review: Two Dead in a Month — Unreliable and Barebones for Remote Use - I bought three Aqara U300 locks for interior doors in a remote Airbnb setup, thinking they’d be a cost-effective, smart upgrade. Unfortunately, two out of the three died within the first month, both due to completely drained batteries. Once they're dead, they’re totally unresponsive—even with fresh batteries, you need physical access to power them up via USB-C or key (and yes, it’s a huge pain when you're managing things remotely). Worse, you can’t unlock or manage users remotely. You have to be physically near the lock with Bluetooth to do anything meaningful—like adding/removing users or unlocking the door. You can see battery status through the app, but you won’t get any warnings when it’s about to die. So unless you're actively checking, good luck catching it before the lock bricks itself. Meanwhile, my Schlage exterior smart locks are still cruising along at 90% battery, fully remote-capable, and haven’t given me a single issue. Should’ve just spent the extra and gone all-in on Schlage. Pros: Sleek design Works with Apple Home Key and Matter (when it works) Easy initial setup Cons: 2 of 3 failed within a month due to dead batteries No remote management or unlocking No low-battery notifications Bluetooth-only for any real admin control Not suitable for Airbnb, rental, or any off-site use Emergency power is awkward if you’re not physically there Bottom line: If you need something that actually works for remote property management, this isn't it. Looks nice, sure—but the reliability and features just aren't there. Aqara still feels like beta hardware. Go with Schlage if you want peace of mind.

## Features

- 【Apple Home and Home Keys Integration】The U300 is a smart door lock seamlessly integrated with Apple Home (requires an Apple 2-in-1 Matter Controller & Border Router). You can unlock it effortlessly using Apple Home Keys by simply tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch, even when your device is out of power. Additionally, door access can be easily managed and shared with guests directly through the Apple Home app.
- 【Smart Automations with Aqara and Third-Party Devices】When paired with an Aqara Thread-enabled Matter Hub (like the M3), the U300 supports smart home automations and remote unlocking. Thanks to the Matter over Thread protocol, it’s also compatible with third-party ecosystems such as Google Home, Alexa, IFTTT, and Samsung SmartThings. This flexibility allows seamless integration into a variety of smart home setups for enhanced automations and convenience.(Tips: After adding the door lock to the Aqara Home app, only the administrator's fingerprint or password can reset the door lock.)
- 【Multiple Unlocking Options Including Fingerprint】The U300 features multiple unlocking methods, including a highly accurate fingerprint reader on the handle, which supports up to 25 unique fingerprints. It also offers one-time local passwords for use and periodic passwords for guests when offline. It's worth reminding you that you can also unlock your door using your Aqara NFC card, which is a very convenient thing to do!(*Note: NFC card is sold separately.)
- 【Passage, Auto-Lock & Do Not Disturb Modes】The U300 offers two primary modes: Passage Mode, ideal for quick, hassle-free entry in high-traffic areas like commercial spaces or garages, and Auto-Lock Mode for enhanced security. Additionally, Do Not Disturb Mode mutes the lock's sounds during specific time frames, ensuring a quieter experience when coming home late without disturbing others.
- 【Durable, Secure & Long Battery Life】Built from robust zinc alloy and rated IPX4 for water resistance, the U300 is designed to withstand temperatures from -22°F to 131°F. Powered by 4 AA batteries, it boasts an impressive battery life of up to 10 months. In case of emergency, two USB-C ports are available for backup power. All sensitive data, including fingerprints, is stored locally with full AES encryption for maximum security.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a Wi-Fi-enabled smart lock?**
A: No. It utilizes the Matter over Thread networking protocol and requires a compatible Matter-and-Thread-enabled hub for network integration. Note: Each hub works only with its own app. Example: Apple Home Key requires the Home app and Apple hubs.

**Q: Why can't my U300 pair with the app (non-Aqara app)?**
A: Check the following: • Use a Matter-over-Thread hub; • Enable IPv6 on your Wi-Fi; • Phone and hub on the same Wi-Fi; • Bluetooth turned on; • Lock within 5 m of the hub with no obstruction; • Press the Set button before pairing;

**Q: Can the handle of the Aqara U300 be reversed?**
A: Yes, the handle can be reversed. Please watch our instructional video carefully before attempting, as incorrect installation may cause a loose handle or affect certain functions.

**Q: How do I know if this will fit my door?**
A: The lock fits doors with a 2 3/8" or 2 3/4" (60–70mm) backset, 1 3/8"–2 11/64" (35–55mm) thickness, and a 2 1/8" (54mm) hole. If your door has two boreholes (typically for separate deadbolt and handle), a deadbolt-style lock may be more suitable.

**Q: Can the Aqara U300 be used on outdoor doors?**
A: We do not recommend exposing the product directly to rain or snow. If used outdoors, it must be installed under a covered entrance (e.g., a porch or awning).

### ⭐ Two Dead in a Month — Unreliable and Barebones for Remote Use

I bought three Aqara U300 locks for interior doors in a remote Airbnb setup, thinking they’d be a cost-effective, smart upgrade. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ legitimately excellent
*by A***R on October 16, 2024*

Build quality is great. Works extremely well with Apple HomeKit. Apple Home Key works faster than on my Schlage encode plus deadbolt that is also set up solely with Apple HomeKit and Home Key. I've not downloaded the Aqara app to set it up that way, but I understand the Aqara app just has a few extra features and settings, and it can also help set up HomeKit access. A few YouTube reviews go into the additional settings available on the Aqara app. For the instructions, there's a QR code in the box that links to a more detailed PDF online. If this is one of your first smart home accessories -- or if you have any trouble at all -- just print the PDF. Too easy to miss a critical detail if you're reading off your phone. (While certainly everyone has different experiences, my HomeKit setup was successful on the first try with this Aqara lock, whereas my Schlage encode plus took 45 minutes. C'est la vie.) An area of potential improvement relates to the auto-locking behavior. By default, the door locks automatically after being opened once. You can change that by enabling Passage Mode, which keeps the door unlocked. However, if you lock and unlock it, then Passage Mode reverts back to being off, and you then have to re-enable Passage Mode again. The default behavior should be reversed. Auto-locking should be an opt-in user choice from within the Aqara app rather than a default behavior when new. That said, overall the lock is excellent. For me it still gets 5 stars. It's my first Aqara product and has me considering some other smart home accessories from them.
