What works the best for me was bananas, however, carrying 5 or 6 of those suckers on a 3 hour ride is not feasible. I wanted something that can be mixed with my hydration but didn't want the overly sweet mixes. I decided to try these super high carb mixes. I've been using a lot of Skratch products (Hydration, Gummies, Energy Bars and Recovery) and trust that it won't give me GI issues based on their simple ingredients. Used this for the first time on my 3 hour ride that I've been trying to beat my best time, knocked it out of the park, discovered my main issue on these rides are essentially running out of usable energy during the ride. Consuming solid food requires time to chew/digest the food. With these - seemed it goes straight to my blood stream. Very weird sensation; usually I will be hungry partway into the ride when consuming solid food, I have to constantly eat on the bike, with these, I still feel hungry, but I don't feel the bonk. Figured what works for me was about 35g/hr and I add one banana 2 hours into the ride to suppress the hunger feels. I intend to push into the 50g/hr and assess my performance. Mixing it was tricky. You'd need time for the powder to dissolve fully, I decided to do the mix in a glass jar the night before; the clumping is frustrating and took time decently mash/disperse the slurry. I left it overnight thinking that I'll add it into my hydration bottle and start shaking it to dissolve it further. To my surprise, everything dissolved the next morning. Trust the process, just give it time. The Lemon Lime flavor taste good to me, kinda like lemonade without the sugar. I'm fine with it.
