Myself being in my early 60's and married to a man soon to be 64, having our own 3 grown children who have families of their own and watching them experience the joys and sorrows that so often come with parenthood, as well as being reminded of parts of our own personal trials and of married life along with the beauty of the sheer wonder of being alive, I appreciate the unpretentious and honest conversations and personalities of the characters in this story. The emotions are thick and laden with passion yet not to the point of drama just for the sake of drama.Our home for the past 40 years has been a 5 acre piece of land we purchased from my husband's parents when they left the much larger farm for a new adventure. We've homesteaded it, building our own home, and outbuilding, clearing land, farming, gardening and landscaping as we please. The thought that we are likely to face the need to leave it someday, assuming we are lucky enough to see our own golden years, is a fact that does not in the least escape either of us.My hope is that we will be able to do so with as much thoughtfulness and grace as is portrayed by the characters of Mama June and Preston.Thank you for offering this, the main reason I chose to read it was that our son and his family moved to the Ashley area of Charleston a few years ago and we've had the opportunity to visit and learn about the beauty and the rich history of this part of our country. I was delighted to find just as rich of a tale to relax with while reading.
