I use this to do kettlebell exercises that strengthen my core. I was told by my personal trainer to start at 20lbs or about 9kg because anything lighter than that won't really do anything for you. I think she was right - if I had gotten anything lighter I wouldn't be building any muscle at all. This is just the right amount of tug and weight, and it's a great price. It's definitely bigger than iron cast ones but it still fits between my legs and I didn't have to pay a fortune for it so I'm happy. However, my wife is a petite person... 5'2" and maybe 120lbs soaking wet... and she has no trouble whatsoever with this KB. If you're looking for entry level value, this is it. Yes, it also has a slightly larger handle, but studies have shown a larger handle will burn more fat and increase grip strength... a little uncomfortable at first, but it's worth it.
