I should know, I have a couple vintage Marshall stacks to compare. On ultra channel, I get more distortion than the rock tunes need. Mind you, I'm not playing metal, I'm playing middle of the road rock. Here's the real plus, I don't get microphonics from this combo amp. I can't say that about the longer-plate Mullard and RCA. The amp is an old Peavey JSX 100 W. Combo. 2 x 12. It sounds good enough and loud enough at practice. I'm kinda thinking about gigging with it now that it gives me the sounds I wanted from Marshall.
