Review: It’s different but I actually like this - I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I found this tea to be good. There was no place to get the regular Lipton loose tea (used since the seventies for drinking and recipes) so I ended up with this in desperation after trying bagged “dust.” It’s grainy; it’s not tea leaves. The packaging is a foil paper so I put that bag into a ziplock bag, and it’s stayed really fresh even with only myself using the tea. I find it to have a ‘buttery’ smooth flavor, really very smooth. I use just a little over half a coffee tablespoon scoop for a five cup coffee/tea maker and I put an extra cup out to make three 12-oz cups. I have alway used vanilla bean snippets with tea and coffee brewing. An inch long piece lasts almost a month with daily use. Just rinse and let dry, put it int basket again (in a filter) with my next brewing. When the bitter tannins come through, it’s time for a new snippet of vanilla bean. It’s not for vanilla flavor, it’s to “tame” the bitter tannins, thank you Bert Greene cookbook for that tip. I really was surprised to find this tea so pleasing, and it’s going to be a staple for me now that I’ve tried it. I don’t know how it’s made into pellets or why, must be to keep it from turning to dust maybe? If that’s it then it works, imho. A surprise really good purchase!
Review: Delicious Iced Tea, Much Cheaper & Healthier Than Soda Or Even Fruit Juice - Good iced tea is the solution to anyone who pays a lot for unhealthy carbonated beverages and lugs them home from the grocery store. The directions describe making a cup of hot tea from a teaspoon or tea leaves. They must like their tea strong! By my estimate, I'll make 60 gallons of fairly strong iced tea from this one large box of loose tea. Incidentally, the box is bilingual. Half is English and the other half is Farsi, Persian or some other Middle Eastern language. Warning To Brits And Other Tea Snobs: Stop reading now. To make half a gallon of iced tea, I microwave five cups of water in a large Pyrex measuring cup with a rounded tablespoon of Lipton Yellow Label loose tea for eight minutes (just short of boiling) and allow it to steep another 3-5 minutes. Unlike an infuser ball, the tea leaves are free to circulate and the tea diffuses quickly. Brownian motion for the win! I pour the tea through the Schefs Premium Tea Filter (purchased on desertcart) to trap the loose finely cut tea leaves, and I add filtered water to make two quarts of tea. The tea filter does a great job of filtering. Part of that may be the result of the premium Yellow Label tea not having much tea leaf dust that can slip through the tiny holes in the tea filter. My tea is almost entirely free of tea leaf silt and it tastes delicious. I drink it unsweetened throughout the summer. Pro Tip: If you like lemon in your iced tea, get a KitchenAid mixer and the citrus juicer attachment, buy bags of lemons in bulk, squeeze them and freeze the juice in ice cube trays. Drop two lemon cubes in the tea filter, pour in the hot tea, and the pulp remains in the filter with the tea leaves. You can also make instant lemonade with a lemon cube, a tablespoon of sugar and a cup of water. Stir until the lemon melts and add ice. I keep frozen lemon and lime cubes. They're great for cooking too, anytime you need fresh lemon or lime juice.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why do some yellow label boxes say "Orange Pekoe" and others do not?**
A: Yellow label contains orange pekoe (black tea).

**Q: What is yellow tea bags ? Is this like the reg tea bags ?**
A: --The tea in the photo above is NOT like Lipton in the yellow colored box (with yellow colored labels on the tea bags) that you buy at the groceries in the US.--
Lipton 100% Natural Black Tea Bags with a yellow colored label sold at Safeway, Walmart, etc, grocery stores in the Lipton yellow colored box is NOT the same quality or taste as the tea pictured above.
The yellow box tea (unlike the Yellow LABEL Tea in the photo) is of a lesser quality black tea, made for the American, or "not so discerning" tea drinker. It is also less expensive.
Lipton Yellow LABEL tea sold/marketed outside the US (England, Canada, etc) has a decidedly different taste; much better quality. It was explained to me, by a Lipton employee who should know, that most Americans are happy to pay less for "everyday" tea and will buy the "premium" teas marketed under special names in fancy boxes for a higher price. I buy my Yellow Label tea from Canada and pay nominal shipping, or from Pakistani or Indian markets. Make sure it says YELLOW LABEL TEA.

**Q: Are this tea bags black tea ?**
A: These are black tea bags

**Q: What does the word "pekoe" mean when used with tea?**
A: It is a grade of tea - "pekoe" typically signifies higher grades, while "dust" is lower grades of tea. Interestingly although the word is supposed to be Chinese in origin, it's not used for teas from China -- pekoe tea is typically from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) or India. Sir Thomas Lipton is supposed to have come up with the term "orange pekoe", although the term has nothing to do with citrus; the "orange" refers to (depending on who you believe) either the color of the leaf after processing, or from the Dutch royal family, the House of Orange, due to the role of the Dutch East India Company in importing tea into Europe.
