Review: Fabulous tool! - December 2025… When I first purchased this back in 2022, it was because I was at a friend’s -in her 70s (I am in my early 40s)- and she was using a peeler like this that said Rex/ and I tried it and used it and loved it and asked her where she got it how long she had had it I could tell it had been well used, but had patina similar to my grandmother‘s pots and pan sets that I grew up enjoying (the best homemade midwestern (carrots, celery, onion, potatoes, wild game that gpa hunted or caught ((deer, rabbit, turkey, squirrel, fish)) baked from scratch and used fruit from her own garden and straight off the tree type of cooking!). Thanks for letting me share my trip down memory lane!…my friend said she said she had had it at least 40-50 years and believe it was a wedding gift, if memory serves me correctly, without looking up notes just to write this post… I add all of that to say when I first ordered this one off desertcart and tried it, I absolutely hated it! I thought ‘well, this is nothing like the one that my friend had! Hers sliced with zero effort & this doesn’t work worth a darn!’ I felt unsafe using it. As a result, I stuck it in the back in its box and tucked it in the back of my silverware drawer contemplating do I keep it and try again or what have you… let’s fast-forward to today… for some reason I decided to pull it out and try it again… Let’s just say perhaps the first time around was in some regard operator error if there can be such a thing. Today when I used it, it was slicing smoothly and quickly— just like the one my friend had. So I have to believe it was technique? Or maybe I had it upside down??? Because it does have the triangular mechanism that is designed to help get the potato eyes out, and I prefer to have that pointed toward me so I can use my thumb pressure to dig into the potato to go down under the eye and pop it up and out away from me… but in order for this to slice easily, that potato eye remover triangle is what needed to be pointed away from my body (I am right handed dominantly so was using the peeler in my right hand, holding the potato with my left during this whole thing). So seems to me if your right handed the triangle eye popper outer needs to be facing away from your body, but if your left handed, it would need to be facing toward your body for the blade to be in it’s optimal position to actually do what it needs to do. I hope this makes sense and I hope this helps somebody. I’m glad I did not throw it away or get rid of it. I had thought about it many times. I, in fact, want to buy one for each of the young ladies in my family that are starting their own families that are cooking lots and lots of their own dinners these days :-). Also, it might help someone who would otherwise shy away from cooking by being difficult and cumbersome because the right tools makes any job easier whether it be feeding yourself l, your family or others; homemade food is so much healthier and economical, regardless of what we tell ourselves when we’re in the moment wanting to just ““ order something quick”. Review: Just pull the peeler towards you to use. - I previously had one of these peelers and my wife and I loved it. It came up missing somehow so I ordered 2. One for here and one for our FL home. We think they are the best peelers and very easy to use. Keep up the good work.
