## Description

Product Description Proven NF-P12 design Tens of thousands of quiet cooling enthusiasts around the globe swear by Noctua's classic NF-P12. Thanks to its impressive quietness, excellent performance and impeccable quality, the NF-P12 has become an established reference for quiet 120mm fans. Pressure-optimised Nine-Blade Design Specifically developed for high-impedance applications such as CPU coolers, water-cooling radiators or cases with tight fan grills, the NF-P12's nine-blade impeller provides outstanding pressure and airflow performance. SSO-Bearing Combining the proven concept of hydrodynamic bearing with an additional magnet that supports the self-stabilisation of the rotor axis, Noctua's time-tested technology has become synonymous with supremely quiet operation and exceptional long-term stability. Vortex-Control Notches Noctua's signature Vortex-Control Notches split up trailing edge vortices and thus spread the fan's noise emission over a wider range of frequencies. This measure makes the fan sound more pleasant to the human ear. Colour-customisable with NA-SAVP1 anti-vibration pads The fan’s frame can be outfitted with Noctua’s chromax line NA-SAVP1 anti-vibration pads. Available in black, red, blue, white, green and yellow, these pads not only damp minute vibrations but also allow the fan to be colour-customised in order to coordinate it with popular build colour schemes! Streamlined Redux Edition The redux product line reissues some of Noctua's most popular, award-winning models by presenting them in streamlined, accessibly priced packages. All redux edition products are industry proven, time-tested models that helped to found Noctua's reputation as a first-tier supplier of premium grade low noise cooling equipment.

Review: Can't fault these fans. Silent, reliable, reasonable price. - I use my PCs all day, every day for everything from writing reviews to recording music. I also use them for gaming and running a driving / flight sim rig. I find the sound of the fans incredibly distracting, so it's been a bit of an obsession to find proper, silent fans. Years ago I discovered Noctua fans, and I haven't used anything else since then. I'm not sponsored and I buy my fans at full price just like everyone else. I say good things about them because I think they are really good, and because they work, reliably. I have fans in one of my PCs that must be 15 years old, and still work as well as the day I installed them. Noctua fans are a 'professional' product, in that you pay a premium price for a premium product. Noctua's standard range is beautifully presented, and the fans come with vibration mounts, splitter cables and a bunch of other 'case candy', some of which isn't really needed for every build. This is where the 'Redux' range comes in. Same quality, same performance, different colour and none of the extras - for a lower price. To be fair, you don't get any anti-vibration mounts. You don't really need them if you screw the fans in the conventional way, but they are an important part of the 'quiet fan' experience. No problem - if you prefer to use flerxible mounts, Noctua sell them as an optional extra, in a variety of colours. Wait, what? Colours? Yes. You no longer have to have boring beige and brown fans if you want a quiet PC. OK, there's no silly RGB on offer, and the new Redux fan colour scheme is an equally boring grey on grey, but it's neutral and does look classy. You can then add optional vibration mounts and pads in your choice of colours. Or not, if you don't need them. I'll admit, I was sceptical. The standard fans aren't exactly expensive compared with a gaming GPU, and I have been really happy with the noise level vs cooling quality of the standard Noctua fans for years. I felt no reason to compromise. Until I discovered that the fans I wanted for my latest project were out of stock. I was moving my mATX gaming PC from a 'cube' case to a conventional PC tower (reviewed seperately) so I could install a full-sized GPU, and I couldn't wait indefinitely for the new stock of fans to arrive. I decided it was time to try the Redux range, and ordered a pair of PF12 Redux-1300RPM intake fans and a PF12 Redux-1700 fan for the exhaust. I needn't have worried. The Redux fans are excellent. I use the fan tuning software provided with my motherboard, and at idle the PC is totally silent. I can see all three case fans turning through the window in my new case, and that's the only evidence that they are running. If I manually set all the fans to run at full speed, the sound is definitely noticeable, but not particularly annoying. Great. It's quiet. How cool does it keep the case? Very, as it turns out. I ran benchmarks using the 'standard' benchmark software, and I was pleased to find that my hardware was performing at the upper end of 'average' without any overclocking or excessive cooling. The motherboard temperatures were well under control. Interestingly, during the benchmark the case fans never got anywhere near their maximum speed. The CPU fan ramped up pretty fast, and the GPU fans went full-hovercraft, but the case fans were easily up to the job. The three fans are shifting more than enough air to keep the inside of the case at the same temperature as the room it's in, no matter what the PC is doing. And most of the time, they are doing it silently.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many cfm, or cubic feet per minute?**
A: Google says "120,2 cubic meters per hour to cubic feet per minute = 70,747049 (cubic feet) per minute." I can type that in with the best of them.

**Q: Is this an airflow fan or a static pressure fan?**
A: The fan blades are shaped for static pressure. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KF7PPY4/ref=psdc_11036291_t1_B07CG2PGY6 are shaped for airflow. These are static optimized fans

**Q: If I want to only use two wires on this fan for max speed, which leads should I use green / black ?**
A: Here's some info that might help you, and should answer that question giving you some confidence... that extra pin on a 4 pin fan is the digital speed control -- this is why the fan goes at max speed if plugged into a 3 pin connector (letting the 4th pin just hang over the side), rather than a a 4 pin connector. Pin number 3 is what tells your motherboard the rotations per minute (RPM) of the fan. So, all that you are left with is the first two pins. The first pin is ground (almost always black) and the second pin is the power (it's 12 volts, but you can get 5 volts from the a custom connector from the power supply instead of the 4 pin motherboard connector if you want to have a slower fan). Here's a chart:

For 4-Wire Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Controlled Fans

Pin Name Description	Wire color(usual)
1	GND Ground black
2	+12V	Fan Power	yellow
3	SIGNAL	Fan RPM green
4	PWM	Digital Control	blue

So to answer your question, yes it is possible to just use the first two pins (regardless of color, although the first one is almost always black, but the color of the second one is not always the same).

**Q: Will the pwm control on this fan stop it completely even with power to +12v/gnd?**
A: On my motherboard (ASUS X99-E WS), can't speak for any other motherboards, any percentage below 50% results in no movement, giving you only really adjustment between 50-100%. I found this somewhat frustrating, but I do prefer this to them never coming to a complete stop.
