Review: Great Basic DVD Player - I bought this DVD player to replace an old CD/DVR player that bit the dust. This player worked great from the start. There was really no setup to speak of. I had to purchase an HDMI cable, but other than that, the setup was great. All the DVDs I've played since then have worked great, even ones I had created on the old DVR player. I haven't tried using any USBs yet. So far, I'm happy I purchased it.
Review: Great unit (if you take good care of electronics) - Make sure you get the model that has the HDMI out as well as RCA cable connection (S700). A couple of things: 1. ONLY use the open/close button for the door--DO NOT push the door with your fingers. It's not sturdy enough for that. 2. ONLY remove a DVD by placing your finger in the DVD hole. The drawer does not have cutouts on the side for your fingers and you could break the mechanism. 3. I have the RCA cables hooked to my receiver and the HDMI cord hooked to my TV. The RCA cables fit VERY tight--make sure they are pushed in snugly or you will have problems with sound/picture. If you're having trouble with picture or sound, the first thing I would suggest is check to make sure the RCA Red/White/Yellow connections are pushed in all the way. 4. I would highly recommend only adults use this DVD player--it's not sturdy enough for kids or others that don't take special care when using electronics. 5. MAKE SURE you read in the manual how to get to the settings. Some will need changing. On mine, the factory setting for picture size was set to 4x3 (for old square TVs) rather than 16x9 (newer recantangular TVs) 6. The remote is very compact/small with lots of close-together buttons. If you're older, you're probably going to have to hold it very close to choose what you want to do. 7. I've thrown all kinds of media at it--store bought DVDs, home-burned DVD-R and DVD+R. No problems with any of them. I have not tried using it to play CDs so I can't speak to that. 8. It's a nice, compact unit and light weight. I'd make sure it's not sitting too close to the edge of where you put it--I don't think it would survive any kind of fall. 9. It came with an RCA cable (Red/White/Yellow) but NOT an HDMI cord so you'll need to get a cheap one of those. The batteries are included for the remote. 10. Picture quality on my TV is excellent. Sound through the receiver is excellent as well.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why not get a BluRay player that upscales regular DVDs? Wouldn't that be far more versatile?**
A: I'm getting this over a modern Blu-ray player for a number of reasons. A. This device can be easily unlocked to play any region DVD's, a region free Blu-ray player costs around $200. B. I want a dedicated DVD player that is made strictly for that purpose as I have a huge DVD collection and not many Blu-ray's, for many Blu-ray players, the DVD aspect is somewhat of an afterthought and not the purpose of the machine, you will notice in reading Blu-ray player reviews, people often complain about their players not playing older dvd's getting error messages with DVD's ect., it is a different technology and an "add on " for a Blu-ray player. C. Modern Blu-ray players try to do too much, they have all this technology and bells and whistles, there are a lot more things to go wrong in them, freeze up and fry the machines, ect., they also are constantly getting on the internet and updating software and that can make the machine more prone to go bad too with one bad line of code or a virus. My Sony Blu-ray player jumped on the internet and reported me to Sony because it thought the disk I was watching was a bootleg, my player actually tattled on me while whatching a movie and the machine froze and I got a notice in my email from Sony accusing me of pirating. In any event for me anyway, there are a number of reasons I would choose a good basic player for $50 and not have all the bells, whistles and headaches. Here's another interesting article related to modern Blu-ray players, apparently they only work as long as they keep updating copyrights, and the company can decide at any given time not to update older machines, and you will never be able to watch newer disks once this happens. http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2013/09/26/call-kurtis-why-your-samsung-blu-ray-player-may-not-play-your-movies/

**Q: dose this player remember where it stops?**
A: Don't you just love all the conflicting answers to this simple question? So I'm going to assume using good faith that everyone is answering truthfully. Then logically that means there are several variations of the Panasonic DVD Player DVD-S700 where this function does not work on one variation (let's say maybe the black version) and it does on the white version. How else can you explain that I just received the black version and there's no way this resume function works using any of the straightforward or convoluted instruction provided in the manual, in the answers below, or instructions found by googling. Sorry folks, if you want the safe answer, it is no this does not resume where you left off after stopping (not pausing since that would be a "dah") the episode. Just as an aside, I've owned many dvd players over the years, and this is the first one I've encountered where this function doesn't work.

**Q: will this playback DVD +rw media**
A: Have a deck with 2 sets of speakers wired for stereo.
Want a cd player to drive these to a low minimal volume.
Would the Panasonic changer provide enough power to perform this task?

John in Colorado .

**Q: Will this unit play in the loop mode?**
A: Thank you for reaching out! Yes this unit will play videos on repeat.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ More bang for your buck than anything else in this price range
*by S***X on July 28, 2023*

I looked at alot of DVD players and was disappointed in most of what I saw. Some went straight to the video instead of to the menu, some had an audio lag, some were painfully slow to start, and some had unintuitive remote controls. I was especially disappointed with all of the Sony DVD players I looked at. For this and other products Sony has really gone downhill. This Panasonic player loads quickly, sets up easily, opens the menu, the remote has alot of buttons but it is easy to learn, it doesn't generate heat, and basically it does everything it is supposed to do better than many other brands. It does upconvert, not all the way to 1080 (none of them do due to the original quality of the recording), but the picture is better than I expected and there are no artifacts like in other upconverting DVD players. It works through my eARC connections (when I turn the DVD player on my TV also turns on and selects the correct HDMI port on my TV, plus it turns my soundbar on in the correct sound mode), and my TV adds some additional upconversion. It should note that I have a newer 4K TV and I use certified 8K HDMI cables. Since this is installed in an enclosed cabinet, I installed an IR repeater with an outside the cabinet sensor and this player and remote control have no problem with IR response at all. I am very happy with the quality and operation, specially given the price of this DVD player.
