It has a strong growth, although its stems are hollow. This is where the Latin genus name β€œCannaβ€œ = pipe, reed is derived from. They thrive in a tub, outdoors, in moist soil as well as in planting containers at the moist, marshy sides of the pond. There, they can stand a few centimetres deep in water, making a beautiful backdrop with their bright coloured inflorescences and height. Flowers appear from June on. Planting depth: 5 to max. 10 cm. Origin: The Canna is a native of Tropical America and India. There, it grows in sunny locations in swamps or on river banks. Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. These seeds are from natural cultivation. The hard shell should be roughen with sand paper to make the seed pellets more permeable. Sprinkle the seeds on well moistened cultivation soil, cover thinly and keep evenly moist. The Canna love warm, wind-protected and sunny places. These marsh plants require a lot of water during summer. Care: Next to lots of water, the Canna also has a high need for nutrients.
