I know for a fact they melt easy on flattop grills.** A: Have not had any issue with the design. The desposeable pads protect the handle from the heat. **Q: Is this item dishwasher safe?** A: I don't know if it list dishwasher safe but i have ran it through the dishwasher at least 5 times so far. It has been fine. **Q: is there a flat version of this for low-height, deep spaces?** A: not that I know of **Q: Will this work with the doodlebug pads?** A: Yes it should. The face where the pad goes has little spikes that should hold the pads very well. Works well. Would be nice if there was a metal one since I clean with a hot grill, but so far no issues. Perhaps the plastic keeps it from getting too hot anyway. I don't think this one is made specifically for a grill, so until they make one for grills I will use this one.
