Just slipped the loop over the dogs head, and gently pulled back on the handle, it allows you to safely leash a dog, And keep them at a distance. This pole works great, exactly as designed, and intended. Very sturdy, and easy to use. Be careful though, please be gentle with strays. It has no locking mechanism, which means even for very small pigs you will need 2 people. This is good from an animal safety standpoint, but the seller should have warned about this. Also, the 60 to 92 inches, is highly deceptive. 60 inches is the maximum functional reach.
