I use mine on a horse stall mat the vast majority of the time, but have used it on pavement a little. In any case, the beads have held up to me landing on them more often than I would care to admit. My recommendations would be to 1) adjust the length of the rope to fit you slowly (I.,e cut it down in increments to reduce the risk you will over cut it) and 2) save the extra beads you removed when cutting the rope to size.
