Review: Brilliant sound and deep bass, but quite a heavy beast to carry around. - Having previously owned the JBL Party box Encore 2, I decided to upgrade to the Club 120, and the difference in headroom and bass depth is immediately obvious. It genuinely punches above its price tag in terms of sound, build quality, and features. Here's how I've found it after putting it through its paces. Sound quality and real-world volume: ● Filling the room: I've been using this in a lounge that's roughly 4.5 x 8 metres, and it fills the space effortlessly. At just 50% volume, it is brilliantly punchy. ● The sweet spot: For a proper house party 80% is the absolute sweet spot - it delivers a loud, thumping bass you can actually feel. If you push it to 90% or above, the DSP starts to compress the bass to protect the speakers. ● Clean audio at low levels: As you can hear in my attached video, even with the volume sitting at just 20 - 30%, the sound remains incredibly clean and crisp. ● Genre versatility: i listen to a massive mix of music - Bhangra, Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Jazz and Pop. The soundstage is amazing across all of them. Note: if you want true, wall- shaking, club level bass, you might want the 320 instead, but the 120 is more than enough for most of us. Taking it outside: ● It's IPX4 rated, meaning it'll happily survive a few splashes or some light rain if the British turns on you mid barbecue. ● The sound travels surprisingly well in an open space, though you will definitely notice the bass loses a bit of its raw power compared to when it's indoors. The app and daily features: ● The companion app is spot on. It let's you tweak the 5 band EQ and customise the light show. In my video, I've got it set to a single red colour, but there are loads of dynamic styles that sync perfectly to any beat. ● I also tested out the Auracast feature by linking up two speakers. It seamlessly split them into a proper left/right stereo pair for a fantastic, wide soundstage. Battery life reality: ● JBL claims 12 hours, and that feels pretty accurate provided you have the lights off and keep the volume around 30 - 40%. ● As a benchmark, 30 - 40% o this speaker feels roughly equivalent to the Encore 2 playing at 60 - 70%, so it's incredibly efficient for background listening. Things to keep in mind: ● The only real world downside is the weight. At around 11kg, it's a bit of a faff if you have to carry it any real distance. Lugging it out to the garden or moving it between rooms is absolutely fine, but you wouldn't want to carry it down the high street. Pro tips for maximum performance: ● Mains vs Battery: To get the absolute maximum out of this speaker, plug it into the wall! On Battery, it pushes roughly 100 to 120 watts, but mains power unlocks the full 160 watts for a substantial boost in punch. ● Placement matters: For a massive, free bass boost without touching the EQ settings, position the speaker about 15cm away from a solid wall or tuck it into the corner of the room. The acoustic bounce makes a massive difference. Is it worth the money? It certainly isn't the cheapest party speaker on the market, but considering the premium build, app integration, and the sheer volume it kicks out, I think it's worth every penny.
Review: Perfect for home use. - I got a pair of these speakers about 6 weeks ago. Excellent sound and excellent quality. Battery life as expected/ stated by manufacturer. Without the light show the speaker can go without charge forever. Light show is also excellent and we use it sometimes when kids are dancing to the music or we sit on a patio. Light show is customizable so you can set it to create atmosphere - not just the disco environment. These speakers are perfect for home use. I tried out the max volume and even with a single speaker and 12 people in your living room it is too much, so you would go down on volume after one or two songs. The speaker is light enough for mu wife or my daughter to carry up the stairs. I compared these speakers with the pair of 320s as I wanted to see if the bigger speakers will be better for listening at low volume. The difference in how the larger speakers fill the room with sound at low volume is noticeable but barely. Not enough to justify the additional heft that they come with. 120s also sound more detailed (you can hear more instruments and nuances) when listening to classic music or modern chill. Overall I applaud JBL for naming their products. 120s are for the club and 320s are for the stage. And that's how you are supposed to buy them and use them. 320s are louder and better for outside but this is how things look like in average British neighbourhood of new build homes: Yor neighbours call the police at 75% of volume for 120s 60% of volume for 320s. The quality is beyond excellent. Everything is supper snug and the handle is well sprung so nothing shakes or vibrates when music is playing. 120s, after deactivating the bass boost, are completely on par with your mid range audiophile set and way beyond anything like sound bar plus satellite speakers for a typical TV setup (even if that setup is three times the price of your 120s). Bluetooth pairing is quick and easy. Have JBL partybox app installed when starting your speaker for the first time and especially when starting a set of speakers to play in stereo. Speakers would play a sound indicating looking for Bluetooth source, then another sound when paired and then after about 5 seconds to indicate that they found each other to play in stereo. After all devices in your house are connected to the speaker it will be kind of a lottery which speaker will connect to who's phone. Yes there are rules for that but good luck remembering who's phone, laptop or projector was last connecting in the family of four. Typical Bluetooth fun that we have when going for a family trip and everones Bluetooth is active when the car media centre starts. After the pair of speakers are connected to form a stereo group you touch only one speaker to change volume, light show and power down both of the speakers. Few people can connect to the speaker at the same time and then speaker will play the music from the phone that started playing a piece most recently. A nice feature for parties but kids can interrupt each others songs so you know... use responsibly. You can connect more than two speakers by pressing the middle button on the bottom of the screen in the app. I connected 120s and 320s to play together but when you do that they will no longer play stereo - they will play in sync like the speakers that are ceiling mounted throughout multiple spaces. I understand and like it - it would be too much fuss to set up a nice sounding environment and it would be easily destroyed after someone moved one speaker. Not something that you want to do with portable speakers. I couldn't recommend the JBL's Club 120 enough. The price is right.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing but…
*by P***L on 18 March 2026*

This is a fantastic speaker. The difference from my old speaker is huge. But, although loud, it’s not wall shaking as some claim. You need a 320 if you want very loud sound - or buy two 120s. After saying that, this is more than loud enough for me - and I enjoy loud heavy metal music. It’s no way wall shaking though! It connects beautifully via bluetooth, so simple compared to older speakers. You can switch the lights completely off too. Design and cost wise, and performance - I would give this 10/10. Really, you’ll love it.
