I had no problem struggling with keeping the tape from sticking to itself and the object to which I was placing it after I decided to use the water/soap method...Wetting with a spray bottle both the tape and the surface worked the best followed by using a plastic squeegee to position and remove the excess water and any bubbles. **Q: has anyone removed this from a painted cabinet? Did it remove paint?** A: I have not tried to remove 3M paint protection tape from any painted surface. However, it sticks very well to my bicycle frame. After years and many miles, not even a tiny corner of the tape has lifted away. I'd imagine that a heat gun will be necessary to soften the adhesive as you carefully pull off your tape? Perhaps also a 'Magic Eraser' to remove any leftover adhesive and avoid solvents which might dissolve paint from your cabinet.
