    Good produce, slow to cure

*by S***O on Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2014*

I'm a sea kayaker and I wear soft, neoprene gloves when I paddle. They get holes in them all the time. I patch the holes with Aquaseal, and I've never had a patch come loose. As with any material, you need to learn how to use it. It doesn't like the edges of the patch to be "feathered" to zero (0) thickness. You want to have the edge of the patch to have some thickness, so the edges aren't so insubstantial that they start to fray. I've patched so many pairs of neoprene gloves with this material, so many times, that I have more confidence in the patch material than I do in the neoprene under it. Now that I've had some experience in applying it, I use it to reinforce high wear areas of brand new gloves before I wear them the first time. Aquaseal is tough stuff, and tolerably flexible as well, once it has cured, which takes several hours. You can buy some stuff called "Cotol" (also from McNett) that accelerates the curing process, but I've never used it, nor do I think it's necessary if whatever your application is allows for curing overnight. It's a good product, but just remember there's a learning curve for how to apply it, and you won't get best results (nice, thin, flexible, even patches) until you've used it a few times. I apply it using a dental pick, so as to stretch the material from a glob into a uniform patch, and I use the pick to manipulate the material into good contact (don't rely on gravity for that). A toothpick would also work to apply it. Just squeezing it out of the tube usually makes an ugly patch. Something to remember is to NOT let the Aquaseal get on the threads of the tube or the threads of the plastic cap. If you do, when it cures, you will have glued the cap to the tube and it'll be VERY difficult to get the cap off again. Allowing that to happen also allows the curing process (around the cap) to proceed down the tube into the material inside the neck of the tube, and soon the neck becomes clogged solid. After that, you need to start poking holes into the side of the tube to get to the still-liquid Aquaseal, and in a short while the tube is a total loss. So you have to be very neat and carefully clean the area around the cap before resealing it, or you're going to be buying more Aquaseal. Because Aquaseal is viscous, and because it cures so slowly (like slow set epoxy), gravity has time to act upon it before it cures, meaning it's not well-suited to vertical applications. It will run, so flat and level works best. If you have to use it for something that has a vertical or curved surface which could sag/drip/run, the Cotol might be needed to accelerate the curing time, or you'll need to rotate the object so a gravity sag does not result before it cures. I like the product and have used it for diverse applications it wasn't intended for, usually with good success. It's like slow-set clear liquid rubber. What could you use that for?

    Great Product

*by L***A on Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2012*

This, in my opinion, is one of the best Urethane adhesives I've tried. I've tried all kinds from several different stores, to ordering products off the internet. I work in streams, creeks, rivers, ect and wear waders that get beat up quite often and quickly. Instead of buying new waders every few weeks, I use this adhesive to repair holes/tears from all the branches/debris I pull out from the water. I've saved literally over HUNDREDS of dollars by using this rather than buying a new pair of waders every time there's a hole/tear. Works great and it stands up to the constant abuse/ wear/tear I put on my waders better than any other product I've tried so far.

    Works great when new....first opened.

*by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2016*

Patched a very small rip on my Gore-Tex snowboard pants with just a couple drops of aquaseal. It is very easy to use when first opening the tube. I tried to use it a couple months later and the aquaseal was completely dried in the hole opening. The cap was on very tight. I had to use a screwdriver to puncture the opening again and pliers to pull out the dried aquaseal. Now the aquaseal barely comes out and I am pressing and squeezing the tube as hard as I can. It seems as though the whole tube has become very thick as compared to when it was new. The product is great but the tube does not keep product from drying out. I have a full new tube that I can not get the product out of. Contact Gear Aide...just found out you need to store this in the freezer after opening it, even with the cap on tight.
