The Very Hungry Caterpillar was the first book I got my child and she fell in love with the story and the pictures so we have branched out into additional books by Eric Carle. The book has quite a bit of text on the first couple pages which is great because it isn't a super fast story like some kid's books. The rubber ducks start off in a factory being created and their journey takes them on a cargo ship and then around the world to meet different animals. The first few pages are in-depth and then on each page after the ducks fall off of the cargo ship, they meet a new animal. I like that the animals in this book aren’t the traditional animals that are in children’s stories. They meet a dolphin, octopus, other ducks, whale, flamingo, etc. We love all of the animals and getting to meet what part of the world they are from (ex. Polar Bear in the North). This story also teaches directions since the ducks go all over the world.
