He wanted to make things right and make sure my set of escapement files was not rusted. Topec shipped me a new set of files. As seen in my last video, they are free from rust or marks of any kind. I've reflected this new set in my rating. I want to like these escapement files. The small ones will be very useful for jewelry making. The larger, flat file seems to have some discoloration on it which I can only assume is rust. The larger triangular file shares a discoloration mark. I'm not sure what to make of these. The rest of the files are the quality you'll get for the price and will get the job done; good for a beginner jeweler like myself. The kit comes with a stiff brass brush for cleaning the files and four circular pieces of 240 grit sandpaper. I'm not sure the gloves will be useful — the files will rip them to shreds in a moment — but I'm sure I'll find a use for them. The gloves fit a woman's hand tightly, so those with larger hands might not be able to get them on. Overall, this kit has everything I want, but one thing I don't want: rust. With so many similar kits being sold, I can't say I'd recommend this one, but all the kits are probably coming out of the same two factories in China. I'll give this kit three stars, but would have increased it to four had my files not been rusty. May your luck be better than mine. Overall I'd say it's a good set especially for the very reasonable price point.
