I use the 10 on my dogs to groom their paws, in between their nails and on the face and tail, otherwise, I use the 4 & 5 on their coat, where it gets the hair short but leaves a little hair there, thus not removing all. It depends how short you want the hair and my one Cocker-poo who has thick matte's at times on her underside.... I would recommend using the 4 or 5 blade. You will either have to comb the mat's out or trim first with scissors, otherwise the blade will get caught in the hair and won't cut like you would like.
