The farther the max distance of the rangefinder, the higher the cost. I purchased the 1200 meter (1312 yard) rangefinder, which uses two AAA batteries; the longer-distance instruments use a CR2 battery. The instrument turns itself off fairly quickly after a period of non-use, saving the batteries – which last very long.I use the rangefinder for determining height and distance of trees, for hiking, and general surveying uses. It fits the need exactly and has performed quite well. When you turn on the instrument and take a reading, it lists the direct-line distance to the object (yards or meters) and the angle from horizontal (positive for upward, negative for down). If you push the mode button first, then it will also show the equivalent horizontal distance (“level”) and vertical height (“high”). All measurements are displayed to the precision of a tenth of a yard or meter or degree. The company claims that the distances are accurate to 0.33 yard (1 foot) and the angles to 0.35 degree. I have checked the range between 4 and 100 yards, and it measured as follows: 4y = 3.9y, 16y = 15.9y, 50y = 50.7y, 100y = 100.4y. I have trouble believing it would retain the stated accuracy of 1 foot out to distances of hundreds of yards. For the 1312 yard rangefinder, it claims to measure from 5 to 1312 yards; it would actually read at distances between 3.8 yards and about 1400 yards (distances beyond about 1000 yards may be difficult to get a reading). In scan mode, it gives continuous readings as you move the rangefinder across different targets. To measure the height of a tree or other object, you just measure to the top and then to the base, and combine the two vertical height numbers.The only calibration that you can make is with the angle, which is done at the level position (0.0 degree). I have calibrated it in the morning, and occasionally found it to be off by a few tenths of a degree at the end of the day. But usually it is spot-on, and no recalibration is then needed. It comes calibrated when you purchase it. But to accurately calibrate it yourself, you can use a common carpenter’s level or a tripod level. You can also calibrate it quite easily by finding a flat location (like inside a building) and shooting at a marked spot on a wall at eye-height, and then shooting back in the opposite direction to double-check.As another reviewer mentioned, it is very snug in its carrying case, and placing electrical tape over the battery cover works well so it doesn't pop open. I keep the rangefinder in a Ziploc bag, which helps it to easily slide in and out of its case. The unit is small enough that usually I just carry it inside the Ziploc within a large shirt pocket. The eye piece has a focus ring, so you can always get the image sharp. The numbers on the screen are easy to read, and will remain on the screen after a measurement for about 15 seconds; so if the view is dark or at night, you can just redirect the instrument toward a brighter object and easily read the numbers before they disappear. The 8x monocular is very crisp, but I don’t have steady hands so I usually make a number of measurements on my target. Even with wobbly hands, the measurements out to at least 100 yards are quite repeatable, within about 0.5 yard. The rangefinder does have trouble if you are measuring an object with branches or tall grass in front of or near the object, and rarely in ordinary sunny situations as well (not sure why). In these cases it either won’t give you a reading or it may give you a false reading, like 5x the correct distance. But in those few cases, I have always found ways to get around the situation.Overall, I really enjoy using this rangefinder. It has all the features that I was looking for, and is small and lightweight. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ If battery case seems loose, put tape across it. *by C***. on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 27, 2017* The rangefinder works great for my golf game.Easy to use and has good accuracy.I had an issue with the cover for the batteries coming off and loosing it on the course somewhere. I found a contact email for the company on their instruction sheet. They were very responsive and agreed to send me a new cover, which I have now received (from China).This cover fits better and hopefully will stay put.Very happy with the product. I do hunting and long range shooting up to a mile and needed a rangefinder to go with me. This little rangefinder is great for the money. I carry it on me this last weekend for a coyote hunt and it did amazing in low light and had no trouble going out to 1300 yards. I defiantly recommend this if you are a hunter or a long range shooter. My Kilo had a hard time determine range from 1000 out and this rangefinder didn't. My friend was impressed with this just as much as I was. We both shoot out past 1000 yards. I also contacted the seller about the warranty about the no questions ask replacement and got a reply in minutes.
