While there are other good books out there, they can be rather overwhelming as a beginner teaching yourself, because there are so many postures (asanas) and points to think of in each move. This book is arranged incredibly usefully, allowing you to jump about as needed and with the book flaps conveniently acting as placeholders. The section on postures to suit specific ailments is brilliant. The postures themselves are helpfuly well explained. Additionally, the overview on the history and further aspects of yoga (other than the stretching postures) are very well written - it covers energy, diet, breathing and meditation, giving you a rounded view of why and how everything fits as an integrated tool for anyone to improve themselves. I can absolutely recommend this without hesitation - a really lovey book by a lovely person. If you're a complete beginner like me and a little unfit, Tara Fraser's other book called 'The Easy Yoga Workbook' is also a must as it gives alternate ways to reach the postures more easily. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I needed! *by M***T on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 October 2011* I'm attending a very good yoga class once a week, but if I'm going to progress I need to practise between classes. I need a guide book as well as my DVDs but many of them assume expertise and existing high ability. This book is just perfect, much better than others I've had from the library or skim read in bookshops. It's very clear, with extra guidance for modified or extended poses so that you can work at your own level. There's a simple introduction to the wider belief system; to meditation; to breath .....
