Metal cover/ducting was put over the lines down the side of the house. I wanted to better seal the bottom of the ducting. This product is like a sticky and slightly tougher playdoh. You can shape it, and pull pieces apart to fit any space. I suspect that this 1 lb unit can easily cover up to 1/2 square foot of space. Some advice: 1. Remove the internal plastic cover -- it's tricky, as it rips easily. I ended up with pieces of it embedded. 2. Use a knife to cut pieces off -- you can rip them off, but it does leave a ragged "edge" that needs to be re-shapped. Overall, great product for the price!
