Here are the pros and cons:CONS:- Box slightly beat up. Knives come crudely packed in cheapest Chinese cardboard imaginable, almost looked like an item that had been returned, taped, and re-sent- Out of the box, some blades were sharp, some not. Expect to do some sharpening.- Very minor imperfections noted in the non-slip handle coating on some knives- Non-slip coating nonsensically absent from honing rod- Shears: ULTRA plain, industrial, utilitarian-looking compared to classy knives; save the shears from your previous knife set- Handle shape and balance not ideal, seem to slowly push index finger into bolster during cutting; offset by incredible feel of handles- NO WARRANTY info or any other printed material comes in pkg.- No company name, no phone number in case a knife breaks and you want a new one- Googling Artigee or the company name Whole Source Foods yields NO INFO on either one. On the entire internet. Very strange. That isn't a knock against the product, just bizarre.)PROS- The incredible soft-feel rubberized handle coating was the determining factor in ordering; it is beyond awesome- Beautiful, very substantial, logo-free, natural wood block (no dye to get scraped off as knives are inserted- Ideal selection of knives, including honing rod- Quality high-carbon Chinese steel- Forged, not stamped- Full tang, brushed finish on butt-end- No rivets...sleek, modern appearance- Co. correctly advises hand washing and drying to prevent corrosion- 8 steak knives- Serrated steak knives: Wanted smooth edge, but after research, they never stay sharp due to constant use on ceramic plates. Serrated knives are nearly impossible to sharpen but stay sharp indefinitely due to only the points contacting the plate- Serrations on steak knives are neither too fine nor too coarse; and they extend ENTIRE length of blade, unlike Wusthof and others- Did I mention the handles? The sumptuous, sensual, creamy feel of these handles? Really amazing, just hope this coating lasts a lifetime- Value: $80 for 16 knives...a ridiculous $5 per knife plus a free block, honing rod, and shears...(empty blocks alone can cost $50 and up)- Incredible level of quality in materials, construction, and tactile richness for $5 unit cost.
