If the dress being shown is too tight to put the stand under the outfit, I simply remove the hook & use the pole put inside the back of the dress to keep the mannequin upright. It works. For most of the dresses, the hook style stand works very well and is very unobtrusive in the pictures. For outfits with pants, I put the hook on the outside of the outfit and that works well, too. You do need to be very careful when first putting the hooks on the pole. It's a tight fit at the top, but I find that if you sort of "screw" it on for the first 1/4", pushing the hook into position the rest of the way is pretty easy. Once it's on the pole, it stays wherever you put it. It works for 6" to 14" dolls, but no taller.
