Additionally, a SATA power connector will need to be attached to the SSD. This will be available on the wires coming off your system's internal power supply, or have to be taken from an existing drive if unused terminals aren't available. If the USB adapter is not required, the SATA cable alone is available, as is the 3.5" Adapter Bracket . Some systems, such as workstations and servers, have special OEM bracketing or install rails requiring a thicker profile to installed drives more closely matching the 3.5" drive standard. The benefit is that the offset fixing holes match perfectly with the iMac drive cables which don't stretch. Other brackets usually place the drive in the centre of the bracket and the iMac leads would not stretch that far.

**Q: Is it steel or aluminum?**
A: Bracket is made up sturdy metal.

**Q: will this fit in my MacBook pro mid 2012?**
A: No, this adapter is not needed, nor will it fit in a MacBook Pro.  You would simply need to remove all hardware from the original drive, 4 screws off of the outside, and then attach those to the new replacement drive.

**Q: Will this adapter work in an iMac 21" late 2013?**
A: Thank you for our question. Those standard brackets typically don't work in iMacs. You'll need a full converter like the one I've linked below.

Bought several of these to add a 2.5" SSD to a 2009 iMac. The benefit is that the offset fixing holes match perfectly with the iMac drive cables which don't stretch. Other brackets usually place the drive in the centre of the bracket and the iMac leads would not stretch that far.

Bought a few of these over the years and I cannot fault them at all. These are the type that offset the 2.5" SSD so that it can be plugged directly into a 3.5" SATA bay that has hard-wired connectors as I have noticed that a lot of them now are becoming more centrally mounted and cannot be used for plug n play but for say in PC Towers where SATA cables can be used.
