If you're a mosquito pin cushion like me! I love this version because it doesn't require the repurchase of the little butane cells over and over again like the other portable kinds. Besides, I always have a canister handy when I go camping so that I can work my cook stove. This hooks to the top of that same canister style. And it takes very little fuel so I'm not worried about running out while I'm camping. In the past I've taken the ones I bring back from camping that have a very little bit of fuel left in them and use them for weeks with this thing turning it on every single night. So yeah, I don't worry about the little bit it might use while I'm on a camping adventure. Now, side note.... Everybody's going to have a different opinion on how this works for them. But it's extremely important to note that it's not going to work in a breeze, it's not going to work hanging from your backpack, it's not going to work to cover a 50-yard radius. This is meant for sitting still in fairly stagnant air in an area. That's about 30 ft wide or less. That's why it doesn't work hanging from your backpack... Nor any other version of this type of device... Because it has to sit still for the bubble of protection to create around you and when you're hiking, you're constantly moving. So yes, this is my second one of this type cuz the first one finally gave out. And I've had multiple thermacills in the past for my summer use. I purchased an off-brand version of something similar recently with terrible results so I'll always come back to this and pay more for a better product. The pads each last a while, and they are a little spendy to replace but totally worth it. I have found a decent alternative to save some money... And I do this but I'm not telling you to... I've purchased lemon eucalyptus oil (not lemon oil plus eucalyptus oil, it's a separate essential oil called lemon eucalyptus that's proven effective on mosquitoes) and drip a few drops on the pad and put it back in. There's a much stronger smell that way but it works beautifully! Anyhooo, it's what I personally do to save a few bucks. These are not chemical free, the pads have chemical in them, so yeah, don't breathe in the fumes.
