After popping and shaking, the ice pack is cold enough to truly chill the injured site. I didn't always wrap the pack in a cloth as it says to, and it wasn't a problem. The pack stays cold for about 15-20 minutes at least, which is the amount of time you are supposed to leave ice on a site in one go.
