The sensor expansion board can connect most sensor shields to Arduino and Arduino compatible boards, since the Arduino Mega has more I/O Pins (54 digital pins and 16 analogue pins) than a standard Arduino, this shield also has connectors specifically for some external devices like to SD card, FM radio communications (Bluetooth and others).It also has an option to power the "V” pins on all the digital I/O 3 pin groups from an external power supply instead of the Arduino +5 V. This is good for large numbers of servos etc.The "analogue” 3-pin groups still use the Arduino +5 V which is better from an electrical noise perspective.This version has two options of +5 V supply to all the "V” pins by using the jumper located next to the blue power Strip: Jumper on: +5 comes from the Arduino. Should be limited to about 300 mA Jumper off: +5 (or other appropriate voltage) comes from an external supply connected to the blue terminal strip. External power ground must also be connected to the blue terminal strip. Using an external supply allows more current than the Arduino or Mega can supply, such as current for control of many servos or relays, and other attached devices. Usually this is +5 V because most external devices require it. It is possible to use + 6 volts if all the attached devices are the same, such as servos with that rating. NO interconnecting cables supplied ! Awaiting response to my complaint. Review: Nice little board - These are great little boards. Most of the Arduino pins are grouped with a 5V & 0V pin, as is commonly used with RC equipment such as servos. They have grouped together some of the other bus connections for SD card &n bluetooth. It does make using the board easy. They provide a separate connection for the external 5V power to the connector groups but it seems a bit patchy how they've done this. It makes this a little inconvenient to use at times but not a show stopper. The real problem with this board is that they've arranged a power connection to be immediately above the Arduino's USB connector, so these tend to short out rather easily.
