It has what looks like a brushed metal surface, very sleek. It is plug and play so it requires no set-up at all - literally just plug it into a USB port and play a CD or DVD. The first movie I played cued right up, all good. The only thing - and this is super minor - the front plastic strip on the front of the disc draw was not fully attached on the left side. There are a couple of tiny clips on the back side and what I had to do was just snap them into place and it seems perfectly secure now. Not a big deal, but perhaps should have been checked before it was packaged. Review: Works sometimes - I use this drive only occasionally, and it is a hit or miss. Sometimes, it's just fine. Quiet, spins up disc just fine. Other times, you can hear it in the next room clicking and humming away trying to read the disc. I have tried other drives on those disc and the other drive reads them just fine. Same type of disc too, regular CDs or DVDs. When I plug it into my Surface Pro, it makes a loud grinding noise and the light flashes yellow for a long time (not sure if this is normal). I've unplugged it and plugged it in again and it seemed to make my PC malfunction as the screen blacked out. I unplugged it again and my laptop returned to normal. Now I'm afraid to use it for fear it could jack up my laptop.
