It wasn't a problem with thread size its that the threaded hole wasn't round. It looked like whatever machine they used to manufacture these needed to be recalibrated. I probably could shove something in the end to open the threads up a little to get it started but then I'd end up with a really tight, difficult to adjust pushrod.
