The tip heats up faster than any of my previous soldering irons, and the temperature control feature is wonderful. If you're not sure what temperatures you should be soldering with, Google it based on whether you're using leaded, or lead free solder.Also, it comes with a load of extra tips, perfect for soldering on surface mount, through hole components, or even if you want a heavy duty tip for soldering on a tin surface. The solder sucker that comes with is also good quality. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time. I don't think so.)Light weight soldering wand. (Can be a con for some)Good soldering wand rest with sponge and wire ball.Cons:I really don't like saying bad things in general but this Sigma 60D was simply unacceptable. Don't waste your time with this soldering station. As an electrical engineering student, I needed something basic yet durable for those occasional PCB and hobby projects. Upon reading the reviews, this looked like a great product... and it was for the first resistor mount. After just five minutes of initial use, I discovered the tip to be only warm (around 100°F) to the touch despite setting the temperature to 600°F. After doing quick diagnosis, I determined that the heating element has failed. The manufacturer had included an extra element which I installed. After the replacement, the iron functioned. However, the heating of the tip was extremely uneven; the flat chisel tip of the iron (the essential portion for heat transfer) was unable to melt basic 0.4 mm 60/40 rosin core solder whereas the conical shaft of the tip readily scorched the solder wire, likely due to the poor tip-to-element fit. It was clear that there were many defects in the product's design and quality. It is important to note that there are no safety testing certifications on this unit and the use of static dissipative plastics (Not ESD Safe) is questionable. If you are looking to waste time (IE: bad grades, device failures, safety risks, etc.) and produce shoddy, inconsistent results, pick this product. Otherwise, I recommend a Hakko FX-888D (soldering station replacing this Sigma 60D)... it's well worth the $90-100 USD. Finally, beware... the same design found on the Sigma 60D is also present in many other soldering stations on amazon carrying other brand names. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Good hobbyist soldering station *by M***R on Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2014* I took a chance on this soldering station because I liked the specs. There we no reviews and I didn't see the same model sold many other places. But it was inexpensive and I really liked the list of features. I am just a hobbyist not a professional.The unit came well packaged. The main unit is that increasingly popular blue/purple color, well laid out and has good buttons and switches. The holder is solid plastic and holds the pencil securely. It has both the sponge and the solder cleaning wire (one of the features I wanted). The pencil is lightweight and it's easy to change tips. It felt fine in my hand. The cord for the pencil is about 40 inches from strain relief to strain relief. Long enough for my needs. The connector and the cord reminds you that you didn't pay a lot for this unit.Hot:Heats up pretty quickly (about 30 sec to 375c)Can show you the real-time temp (if you know the trick)Nice assortment of extra tipsWell fitting stand with sponge and wire cleanerSpare heating elementAbility to change the offset (calibrate the temperature)60 WattsComes with some solder and a few other extras and looks goodNo So Hot:Poor manualDoes not show real-time temp by defaultConnector and cable feel a little cheapThe manual tells you how to set the temperature. Since there are only 2 buttons, up and down, most of us tin melters can figure that out. However the manual makes no mention of what the flashing LED means. The LED I am referring to looks like the decimal after the temperature number. Usually this is an indicator that the iron has reached your desired temperature, but I noticed different flashing patterns. My best GUESS is that when it is flashing regularly (on and off are of equal duration) it is at your temperature and there are other flashing patterns for heating up and cooling down to your temp.This may cause you to ask "if this unit can show real-time temp shouldn't I be able to watch change as it raises or lowers to my requested temp?" I think the answer is "yes you should but no it doesn't". The temp it shows is what it should be not what it actually is, UNLESS you change the temp setting up or down a degree, then the number flashes and for a fraction of a second you can see what the real temp is before it quickly climbs up to what you want it to be.
