Neither issue is a problem. It is very strong even with somewhere around the equivalent of 150 pounds. I think it could easily go up to 200, maybe 250, maybe more. And the entire time I've used it, I've only ever needed two of the pieces connected (which probably improves the weight support) At least if you're using it for like chest press exercise or bicep, that's more than wide enough even for someone with a fairly large wing span. I couldn't talk to the weight as much if you're trying to deadlift and you wanted it to be substantially wider than your shoulders.
