A: Persist Biochar is made 100% from California pistachio shells here in the United States. The manufacturing company is VGRID Energy Systems which uses their bioserver technology to convert AG waste pistachio shells into clean energy and they extract Persist Biochar from the process. The bioserver uses a high Temp/low gasification process to ensure the biochar is pure and has a very high porosity value for maximum adsorption capacity.

A: The formula for finding out how many quarts is in 1.5 cuft is: to multiply the volume value by 29.922078. So the answer to your question would be 44.8831169 quarts

**Q: Is this good for clay soil?**
A: Horticultural charcoal is good for just about any soil and clay is no different.  This will be a great additive for clay soil.  I live in a clay-heavy area of New England and this has worked great in my garden and overall yard plantings (not to mention potted plant soil). On this issue though, I will say if you do have a substantial majority of clay soil and the amount of topsoil that would be needed to noticably/fully improve it would be unrealistically cost prohibitive, a spring and summer of garden gypsum is absolutely critical to aid in creating a suitably draining soil.  Mix that with the charcoal and you'll see a marked improvement.  Good luck!

The latter is used to filter water and air for purification purposes, though many DYIs survivalists and such show how you can use the low-grade charcoal when additional precautions are made. Persist Biochar is made using a low oxygen high-temperature process which creates a very high surface area and would be considered a low-grade active carbon. In saying that, Persist Biochar is not approved or tested to purify drinking water for animals or people.
