They are still around the sitting area and other parts of the garden but not near the food, the bendy rod allows the fins to get close to the food and deter the most resilient bug. I guess this is like using your hands and wave around to get the flies away but this is just a bit more effective with the shiny tape and also the battery will last many many hours with 2AA batteries (Not included) It does not make any noise and the fins will stop as soon as you reach the food and it touches you skin, does not hurt and will not affect the motor/unit.
