A: My husband put it together. The way it works is s follows. The chair has 7 parts. You are asking about the post which is the middle piece. The post sets in the hole of the middle of the legs, you push that in. Nothing required to secure it. Same with the bottom of the seat. You sit on it and it sets itself in tightly. I'm very pleased with this chair. It was easy to assemble, comes in an easy to handle box for shipping and is comfortable. The padding for the seat is thick and gets better as you sit more. The dark green faux leather is even nicer in person. Not too shiny, but looks luxurious. The rattan backrest provides nice support, but not if you want a cushioned support obviously.
