## Description

Product Description Colour Primers Our Colour Primer spray is the perfect time-saving product that allows you to prime and give a base colour to your model simultaneously, saving you a lot of time. Our unique formula is specially designed to be used for miniature painting and can be used on metal and plastic as well as resin. The superb pigment quality makes the Colour Primers easily cover the first time. The colours are matt and dry quickly, making your freshly sprayed miniatures or models ready for painting almost right away. Shake Our Colour Primers are richly pigmented with superb, heavy pigments. This means that it is especially important to give our sprays a thorough shake prior to use. Make sure to shake the can for a full minute in a clockwise/counterclockwise semicircular motion. This motion is important to preserve the glass agitators contained in the can. Give the can a quick extra shake now and again during use. Distance Be mindful of your distance when spraying your models. Colour Primers must be used at a distance of 15-20 cm, whereas varnishes must be used at a distance of at least 30cm. It is a good idea to line up your models, meaning you have more control of your spray distance! Randomly placed models might result in some models being sprayed too close while others from too far. Motion While spraying, make sure you move the can from side to side in a flowing motion. Start spraying to the side of the model, and move the spray across the model, ending the spray burst when you’ve passed the model. This wat you avoid overspraying your models in the highly pigmented Colour Primer. Don’t spray with short bursts but try to use even sweeps with the spray. Always make sure to do a test on an old model or sprue first. Clean Since Colour Primers are a combination of traditional primer and highly pigmented quality acrylic paint the spray is very different to use than other primers. Amongst this, it is sensitive to blocking because of the thick paint jamming the nozzle. It is very important to clean the nozzle after each ended spray session, holding the can upside down and spraying until only gas comes out. NB: Production Date Indicated on Bottom of Can The Manufacturer Date on the bottom, indicates the date that the product was produced. This is not the Expiration Date. The Army Painter Colour Primers will last 5+ Years (from the indicated Manufacturer Date) before expiring. Get more time for gaming The more you can let the spray do the hard work the faster your army will be finished. Nothing in the hobby is as rewarding as fielding an entire painted army, making your games so much more vivid and immersive. Soon you will conquer the battlefield, diving into battle with your army, resplendent in all its painted glory. Don’t let your imagination hold back your creativity. So what are you waiting for? Ready… set… spray! Also available: Speedpaint

Review: Excellent Primer for Miniature Painting - The Army Painter Matt White Colour Primer is a superb choice for preparing miniatures before painting, especially for tabletop games like Warhammer, DnD, and other wargames. The 400ml can provides a smooth, even coat that adheres well to plastic, resin, and metal models, ensuring paint application is consistent and vibrant. The spray dries to a true matte white finish, which is perfect for bright color schemes or as a base for layering and washes. It also helps reduce the number of paint coats needed, saving both time and effort. The nozzle delivers a fine mist with minimal spatter, allowing for clean coverage on even the smallest details of a miniature. Drying time is quick, and the primer is durable enough to stand up to handling during gameplay and painting sessions. As with all spray paints, it’s best used in a well-ventilated area and with smooth, sweeping passes to avoid overcoating. If you want a reliable, high-quality primer that enhances your miniature painting results, this one is highly recommended.
Review: Excellent spray paint. Quality service. - Edit: Replacement can arrived so quickly and it works perfectly. Thank you Army Painter (and thank you desertcart - for the incredibly quick delivery). Actual Product Review: The finish from this paint is beautifully smooth and clean and I have found it to be durable. Application is easy and you get excellent coverage. I have used Army Painter spray paint on a whole swarm of models now and none of them have had any problems with chipping or peeling from handling, tabletop use or transport. Aside from the defective can, which appears to have been just 'one of those things' as opposed to any indication of brand quality, I been very pleased with Army Painter spray paint and recommend it. Note: Do watch or read the tutorials as it is slightly different to your typical spray paint - particularly if you regularly use other brands of spray paint (you have to be closer to the model than you would usually be) and do perform the cleaning at the end of spraying to maintain longevity of your can. Original review: The can I received just a few hours ago was defective. No pressure. Paint just dribbling out. Totally unusable. The first tin of Army Painter Spray I bought was great. Still going strong and I was really happy with it. This is the second I have bought, and it doesn't work at all. I will be happy to improve this review if the returns policy works effectively and the next can works as intended. 'Army Painter' was recommended to me as a reliable brand so I am hoping this was just a bad tin and I got unlucky. Third times the charm!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can i use primer on aircraft modles and other acrylic paints ?**
A: Wash model first make sure dry then spray with primer. Primer is acrylic based so can use paints over it.

**Q: How many 28mm miniatures can I prime with one tin?**
A: A fair few!

**Q: Is it waterproof?**
A: I don't know, not having tested it. I've been using it for painting 3D resin printed models. Where not painted with a final acrylic coat, I've always applied a clear plasticoat spray. It's a primer, not a final finish, so best guess would be no.

**Q: Can this be used as a base coat for white models?**
A: Indeed it can. This is a primer and colour in one spray.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality
*by A***W on 19 June 2025*

I’ve used a fair number of spray primers over the years, but The Army Painter Colour Primer in Ultramarine Blue has quickly become a go-to for painting blue-themed miniatures. What makes it stand out is that it serves as both a primer and a basecoat in one, saving time and giving a consistent colour foundation straight out of the can. The matte acrylic finish dries evenly and doesn’t obscure fine details, which is always a concern when spraying models with intricate features. The Ultramarine Blue tone is ideal for Space Marines or other armies that rely on rich, deep blue hues. It matches well with other paints in The Army Painter range, especially their Warpaints line, and works beautifully with their Quickshade Dark Tone for adding depth and contrast. The spray nozzle delivers a smooth application, avoiding the splatter or pooling that sometimes happens with cheaper brands. I find two light coats are usually enough to get solid, even coverage without hiding detail. Drying time is a touch longer than some other primers I’ve used, but the trade-off is a stronger finish and vibrant colour. Some painters may find it a little less saturated than Citadel’s Macragge Blue, but for my purposes, the balance between tone and texture is spot-on. If you’re painting a large batch of miniatures and want to streamline your workflow, this primer does a great job of setting the stage for detailed brushwork. Overall, it’s an excellent product that’s earned a permanent place on my hobby shelf.
