Aluminum would be far too soft for the prying tool or the wrench and plain steel would require a coating that would wear off and allow corrosion. A traditional stainless steel could be a functional choice, but would increase the tool's weight by about 70%. Also, the finish on the tool provides reasonably good grip (even considering its size) without being difficult to remove from your pocket or the included leather sleeve. The internal magnet that both prevents the blade from rattling and allows you to stick it to ferrous surfaces is a nice touch. All in all, an exceptionally well designed tool for a niche role.
