See through and there's really nothing to them. No handles, no soft side, just a fairly long rectangle of rough material. That being said, I love them. They don't need handles because they're long enough to reach, although handles might help keep the material flat when your using it which would be nice, but you'd have to reinforce it hint hint. If you have sensitive skin do not buy this, it's made for exfoliation! Its supposed to be rough and pull your skin off and personally, I think a good back scratch is better than sex. In fact it could be rougher but then it might draw blood and I suppose that would involve liability issues. Since they give you two of these fabric lengths, you can have one for each bathroom but I only have one bathroom and since I don't see it falling apart or tearing anytime soon, I've discovered the second one works beautifully to scrub the shower clean.
