It can transmit only on the GMRS Frequencies. **Q: The gmrs-50x1 only transmitted on channels 1-20 even though there are slots available to program others. does this one also limit it to the first 20?** A: No, the GMRS-50V2 can transmit on all 256 channels as long as it is assigned a GMRS channel. It is not limited to only the first 20 channels. **Q: How is it that the maximum range is exactly the same as the btech gmrs pro that has only 5 watts output and this has 10 times the power output?** A: My 50 Watt BTECH reaches a repeater clearly that is 65 miles away. I have reached a repeater 160 miles away, but could not talk to anyone. I also recommend getting a good antenna, I am using a TRAM 1486 which is about 30 feet up on my roof. **Q: Why are all these companies so dishonest? 50 Watts means: 50 Watts!! Not 30, not 35, not 40 or 49. I would like a reply from the seller. Thank you.** A: Not the seller, but an owner. If you are talking about the GMRS-50V2, or even the UV50-X2, I have both, it is frequency related. On the normal GMRS channels 15-22, I get right at 57 watts. When I use the channel 22 repeater, which is at 467Mhz, I get just under 30. GMRS 1 - 7 are locked at low wattage. On my UV50-X2, I get near 60 watts in the VHF band, 48-55 in the lower UHF band, and near 40 in the upper UHF. I was able to correct it with a little PC cooling fan. ### ⭐ Do your research *by G***J on February 8, 2025* Do yourself a favor and stay away from this radio. When I first got mine , I connected to my outside antenna , new , fed with lmr400 , so I tried some repeaters ( with the correct tones) , I could bring them up , but could not hear any of them. My first gmrs radio , I just figured gmrs must suck because I can hear nothing. So , I let it sit and bought a different radio , much cheaper , now I can hear repeaters and simplex . So I hooked the Btech radio back up , same tones, power supply , feedline, antenna and once again , can hear nothing. I finally contacted Btech , of course they tried to say I was doing something wrong . I have been a amateur radio op for over 30 years , I know a little something. I told them I swapped radios and I can hear , connect the Btech / nothing , even at zero squelch. Now , if I am 10 foot away with an ht, it will receive. I sent it back for repair , as I left it sit too long for a refund , cost me $25 to ship it back. I get a replacement, same thing / it transmits great , as advertised, frequency is right on , they just have no receive unless you are right next to the source. Like I said , same everything , other radios connected, all is great , Btech connected / total nothing even at zero squelch. I'm not wasting another $25 to ship it back again , that would line me up at $50 wasted . My buddy has been through this same ordeal , only he has 2 of them just sitting. They are worthless for receive , they transmit great , they feel great , seem heavy duty , but they are horrible on the receive side. I say stay away from this , I have been through 2 now , both same issue , my buddy has been through 4 now , all have the same issue / no receive. I'm not one to post usually , I just am tired of playing this silly game , as my buddy got tired of the game also , so yes , we have 3 worthless radios just sitting , as we can't use them / they would be great one way radios , transmit only.
