Review: Regained the shape in my lovely straw beach hat - Bought this to reshape my favourite straw beach hat, as too much packing had given it a floppy brim and collapsed crown. First, sprayed the crown liberally inside and out, stuffed it lightly with a plastic bag to give it 'lift' and then I shaped it by hand into the dimple 'cowboy hat crown' (see photo). Let it dry for 30 minutes. Then resprayed the crown again lightly to set. For the floppy brim, sprayed inside and out until soaked, then set it over the corner of our patio table so the brim dropped over the edge, so the brim would curve downward over the face slightly. Left to dry then sprayed it a couple more times to really hold it's shape. Love the hat now, and bottle is still 3/4 full of spray! Great value and it worked!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this work sprayed on the back of a loose canvas print to tighten it up**
A: Yes. I Think it would work. You may have to do a couple of layers but make sure you don’t spray too close so you don’t soak it the first time

**Q: Would this work on cotton lycra to stiffen to make binding?**
A: This product is much more of a craft stiffener, i.e. I use it to harden fabrics - it is not a starch.    If you are using a stretch product for binding, it would not be at all pliable to use for this purpose.   You soak the fabric in this spray and then it sets very stiff.

**Q: Will this work to stiffen hand crocheted items?**
A: I used it to stiffen crocheted snowflakes but it was with very fine yarn. I'm not sure how Well it would work on thicker yarn.

**Q: Would this stiffen a privacy screen thats gone floppy on top. Would still need it to bend to go back in holder?**
A: Would depend on the material of the screen.
I use Stiffen Quik on cotton, lace, satin but it’s not so good on felt for instance.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works, but takes some patience and know-how

I used this to stiffen my macrame pieces. It took a bit of trial and error to get it to work with macrame, but once I figured it out, it worked well. First thing to say is it is not quick drying at all, the peice you are trying to stiffen needs to be kept in a nice warm place to stiffen within a reasonable amount of time (about 4-6 hours). When we've had nice weather I've left it to dry in the sun, but if its a bit gloomy outside, I find I need at least 24h for it set (it's currently summer so don't have the radiators on, but I imagine in the winter a radiator might help with quicker drying). I tried using a hairdryer, and a heat gun to dry my peices quicker but neither worked. Only thing which seems to dry them is good old time and patience. In terms of setting macrame project, the way I found works best is firstly to make sure your item is on a flat surface. Secondly to really saturate the cord you want to stiffen - not just a few good sprays, it needs to be soaked (but not dripping). Thirdly, you need a good brush to brush out the macrame - I use a cheap bog standard pet hair brush. It is worth noting when I sprayed the stiffener on the macrame cord, I got different reactions from different brands. Some brands curled up, so I had to give them a good brushing out again, and I found if I hadn't saturated the cord enough, it would keep curling back up until I saturated the cord with more stiffener. Thought it was worth mentioning this as seen some bad reviews from people who experienced this. Overall, once I'd figured it out it worked well and the stiffener holds really well over time
