Review: What a book! - I'm a late purchaser of the Nintendo Switch Lite (December 2022). Because I didn't realize a new volume was imminent, I purchased the first guide. It's been useful, though I confess: I didn't read it from cover to cover, before jumping into Animal Crossing (January). Had I done so, I might have made a few better decisions, BUT it might have actually caused me to miss out on the trial and error. I decided I wasn't happy with the way my original island was progressing (I didn't like some of our island geography, either). So, I deleted my data and started a new island. I kept the first guide a little closer to hand, after that. The first book was awkward for me to browse, at times, due to weight and size. This one is even more so, but at least it's a hardcover (I can grasp it better). However, I don't think the shipping weight--just over five pounds--is an exaggeration. The contents of both volumes are extremely well thought out. For the most part, they are also exceptionally well written. There are a few minor areas, where I think the text could be improved. But as a global society, we're all becoming less able to express ourselves correctly, using written English (even if it's our native language). I purchased this because I haven't started the DLC yet, and thought it would useful. The tables, checklists, and inventory catalogs make it well worth purchasing. This complete edition was painful, because I'm on a fixed income. This was a big expense. Fortunately, I had pre-ordered and the billing price was actually $40 for me. Since I've finished the main storyline out, earning the K.K. Slider appearances and paid out for maximum house size, as well as maximum storage size... I waffled for quite a while. I think I'm going to be glad I ordered it, once I talk myself into actually getting started with the DLC. My naughty little villagers and the Nintendo balloon-packing, tree-gifting, and retail tanuki deities just keep giving me duplicate recipes items. Maybe some absence will make my little villagers decide new recipes and items would be a good idea. Lol As I said before, the tables, checklists, and inventory catalogs are amazing. I wish purchasers of the printed book could obtain the same items from the publisher in digital form. Especially if it was in a format that could support using the checklists on digital devices. The book is very awkward to handle, while going through storage inventory or the Nook Phone's inventory app. It's just hard to juggle the guide and my Switch Lite. I'm pleased with my purchase. If you're just starting your Animal Crossing New Horizons adventure, and may also be working through the downloadable content, buy this new edition (over the original). If, for some reason, the DLC doesn't interest you or you can't ever foresee being able to get it... The other edition is still a good resource, but... You may miss out on updated information from service releases... Since I'm a newer player, I'm not sure how much the game changed with updates. I only remember ever looking for information that wasn't in the other edition once... I swear I saw something about being able to move a villager into your house, as a roommate. However, I never found it anywhere (even online). I swear it had an a picture of an in-game human serving a villager cupcakes. But... Well, you might just want to go with this shiny new book. It's really up to you.
Review: Great Guidebook for a Great Game! - I love *almost* everything about this guidebook. It's extremely detailed, the artwork is just gorgeous, and there's something about the comforting weight of the book that's reminiscent of late night studying (except the content here is way more fun!) The only thing I dislike (and this is just a personal preference) is that the page material makes it hard to erase pencil marks. If you've played the game, you know that you can only have one island per Switch. And some people (it's me...I'm some people) like to restart their islands for whatever reasons. I used pencil in the book figuring it might be easier to go back and erase the stuff I'd checked off when I decided to restart. Yeah no...definitely not easier. All in all, it's a great book and I highly recommend it!
