I saw these plates used in a YouTube video and figured I would give them a try. While they are quite thin, as another reviewer noted, they do work exceptionally well. I recently became obsessed with modifying a super cheap hatchet from Harbor Freight as they are well known as being dirt cheap and well made, albeit needing a few cosmetic and functional upgrades. My primary modification was to add a much narrower bevel to the cutting edge to make it more of a cutter and less of a splitter. This was easily achieved with some files and a rotary tool, however, re-sharpening the edge proved challenging with the equipment I had. That's where these plates came it. They allowed me to shave a consistent 30-ish degree edge to both sides of the hatchet through about 10-15 passes per side per grit plate. It was made easier by the fact I was able to use both hands to perform the work. Every other product I had used up to this point, I was only able to have one hand on the actual knife itself. After the careful edge work, I finished the edge with a leather strop and HOLY COW, the thing is now razor sharp. I could probably shave with it if I had to. These plates are great and I think I will get a lot of use out of them as they seem to manufactured quite well despite being on the thin side. The grip texture on the backside is a nice feature. They work really well and give me a very nice edge. Very durable, as I've sharpened 20 knives and 5 pairs of scissors. Using the various grits to deburr and hone the cutting edges is easy to do.
