Plenty of screw holes in the base makes fitting a doddle - although I stuck with the original ones and just re-attached into the existing plugs in the ceiling. Cable routing is simplicity itself, with live, neutral and inter-connect terminals in the main connection block and the chassis earth nearby. With the power back on, both units gave a green light for mains feed, and the test button confirmed that the inter-connect circuit was functional. 2 new smoke detectors fitted & working in under 30 mins. They've both lasted and worked well for just shy of 10 years. Have regularly replaced the back-up battery every 12-18m. Touch wood we've been lucky with no real fires, but small kitchen issues have triggered the smoke alarms successfully. For the last few weeks, close to the 10y expiry, the smoke alarms have been temporamental, even with a new battery, and falsely triggering at random times during the day or night. Googling this, it's possbile that the sensory materials inside the smoke alarms have degraded - hence the 10y expiry. Ordered x2 of the same alarms from Amazon due to ease of replacement. Arrived in 2 working days. Easy to replace, no need to remove previously installed base. The new units just slid straight in the old bases, so no need to install and wire up the new bases (you get x2 as spares really). Bonus, the smoke alarms also included a 9V Duracell battery, so no need to purchase new batteries.
