## Description

Product Description Import only SACD pressing. 20th anniversary limited edition of Dire Strait's 1985 album in the Hybrid/SACD format - 5.1 Surround Sound, packaged in a standard jewel case. Features the same nine tracks as the original version. Mercury. 2005. desertcart.co.uk This is the re-issued SACD version of Brothers in Arms. Dire Straits' fifth album will probably be remembered as the record that ushered in the CD generation, and therefore (depending on your affiliations) a work of extreme evil or an object lesson in craftsmanship. In truth though, it's neither. Inevitably, some moments haven't dated so well. "Money For Nothing", Mark Knopfler's satire of the MTV generation, seems as vacant as its target; while the jukebox jive of "Walk Of Life" could have used a little roughing up. In fairness though, such low points constitute a minority. In latter years, indie bands such as Gomez and Spiritualized have eagerly cited JJ Cale and Dr John as pivotal influences on their work. Perhaps so, but it's the less fashionable Knopfler and his intuitive feel for the fretboard who comes closer. You needn't dig too deep to identify the roots of beauties such as "So Far Away" and "Why Worry". --Peter Paphides

Review: Better than CD - This remastered album is excellent. Already have the CD so knew how it should sound. Not disappointed.
Review: Superb 5.1 Super Audio CD. - I've been a fan of Dire Straits since I first heard Private Investigations from the Love Over Gold album playing on a CD at a High Fi show in Blackpool. That was when CD's were all sparkly and new and this was my first encounter with the new format and Fire Straits. Back then people used to claim that you could still a hole in a CD and it would still play perfectly - yeh, right. I think the player was a Morantz which was a part of Phillips at the time. It was a smallish top loading contraption but sounded pretty good. Suffice to say I bought all of Dire Straits albums. Initially on vinyl but subsequently on CD and more recently on SACD. It's great to be able to play this timeless music and now with all the clarity and panache that this 5.1 disc provides. I can't say that there is a bad track on this album. Even now at the inflated prices that some SACD discs go for I think they are worth the money. Realistically, one has to ask is an album ever really worth £100? Given that this one is less than £11 its an absolute steal - and is perhaps what those over inflated 'rare' SACD's would cost, if only the medium had taken off. Listening to track 9 - the title track in glorious 5.1 is a joy to behold. Other tracks on the album are 1 so far away 2 money for nothing 3 walk of life 4 your latest trick 5 why worry 6 ride across the river 7 the man's to strong 8 one world 9 brothers bin arms In short, a great album made even better by being in 5.1 on a SACD. If you like Dire Straits and you have the best to play the format, just buy it! At a touch under £11, you won't regret your investment.
