The "bad guys" are drawings on thick paper tokens that lay flat on the game board. No blood, no gore. It's as "real" as the players imagine it to be. Our family likes to role play a bit--so when we use the card with the archer on it, we pose as though we are shooting a bow at the orc token laying on the board. But that's by our choice. The "bad guys" are drawings on tokens. The "good guys" are drawings on cards to be used by the players. The stronger bad guys have more hit points, so require more hits to defeat. There are a few hero-types that can deliver more damage than the typical defender. The add-on (sold separately) adds magic to the game.
