There is a locking bar that runs through the center of the puzzle and holds the core of it together. It took a bit of manual dexterity to hold the puzzle together while I set the bar in place. The finished puzzle seems pretty solid sitting on my desk. Not sure that it was really necessary, but I went back and put a dollop of clear gorilla glue in the hole for the locking bar to keep everything secure. There are a few external pieces that sort of just plug in on the body of the 'hog - those seem pretty secure, but it would be easy enough to use a drop of super glue in case they ever come loose. I dropped a few individual pieces onto the floor while I was building and they were fine, though I worry about the strength of the spines if I were to drop the finished piece. It's a very good-looking display piece, though I imagine dusting it off will be a nightmare, but that's an issue for future-me.
